TOWARDS EXCELLENCE AND GLOBALIZATION

The world has become more and more interdependent due to political and economic globalization. European Studies are designed to keep pace with the changing paths of international affairs by studying the European nations and their integration, as well as analyzing their political and economic relations with Asia and the world. All classes are taught in English. Both master and doctoral European Studies are international programs, which aim at excellence in the area of globalization.

“The actual beauty of Europe is more than its exquisite scenery, visiting the Eiffel Tower in Paris, shopping at Harrods in London, or riding a gondola in Venice. But when you engage yourself in learning about the past, the present and the future of Europe, that’s when the beauty of Europe is actually experienced.”

The program, which began in 1997, was the first European Studies program in Southeast Asia to focus on the European integration process from different perspectives, combining the insights of different disciplines. This approach allows students to develop analytical skills focusing on the complexity of the European Union, acquiring both broad knowledge and a deeper understanding in a chosen field.

The MA in European Studies is a full time, one-year program and is recognized worldwide. The Doctoral program is full time and research-oriented (no coursework required for students who have an adequate European Studies background). The maximum period of study for the doctoral degree is 6 academic years.

The program, administered as a department within the Graduate School, is a truly interdisciplinary one as it is a collaboration of four distinct faculties at Chulalongkorn University: History, Economics, Law, and Political Science.
